Factors stabilizing the career of physicians in Lithuania
Abstract
The article represents the data of the project Medical doctors’ career motivation and career planning in the changing labour market in Lithuania. The aim of it is to explore medical doctors’ profession and career dynamics. The project explores contradictions between qualifications, labour market, status and prestige of doctors’ profession as well as migration of medical doctors. The article seeks to advise policy makers on developing solutions and providing strategic recommendations for their implementation, which would help to mitigate the ongoing social and geographical redistribution of human
resources in the Lithuanian health care sector.
The evaluations of various possible actions on career planning models and migration have been studied. Qualitative interviews with experts at Vilnius University, Faculty of Medicine, and the Lithuanian Health Sciences University graduates, doctors, students / staff / international office have been analyzed (30 in total).
