National identity policy: in search of theoretical paradigm and models
Abstract
The article is an attempt to describe the possible theoretical approaches towards the national policy of identity. It analyses the problematic and abundance of various indicators of national identity formation and / or preservation in the context of migration, integration policy. The possible directions of national identity politics significant to the formation and preservation of Lithuanian national identity are explored. The article
correlates with the project “Retention of Lithuanian national identity under conditions of Europeization and globalization: patterns of Lithuanian-ness in response to identity policies in England, Ireland, Norway, Spain and the USA” (funded by the Lithuanian State Science and Studies Foundation) which aims at revealing the ways the Lithuanian national identity is changed when exposed to migrant experiences.
