Abstract

The paper deals with deviations of mortality trends in Lithuania from both the trends described in the theoretical framework of health transition and the experience of the majority of developed countries. Using routine official statistics and census-linked longitudinal data, the study identifies peculiar patterns and features of cause-specific and differential mortality. The decomposition analysis allowed to identify the most important
causes of death and the age groups responsible for the recent contradictory changes in life expectancy at birth in Lithuania.
