Subjective Perception of Security Threats in Lithuania: Do People Feel Safe?

Abstract

This article presents findings of the research project “Subjective Security in a Volatile Geopolitical Context: Traits, Factors and Individual Strategies”, funded by the Research Council of Lithuania. The article draws on the theory of Human Security and analyses the hierarchy and dynamics of perceived threats; perceived security in immediate surroundings, community, Lithuania, the European Union and the world; and also perceptions of particular threatening situations in Lithuania. Perceptions of security in Lithuania depend on the variables such as age, financial situation, as well as attitudes towards the Soviet past and democracy.
